Physiotherapy treatment - Frequently asked questions
How long are physiotherapy appointments at Durham Physio?
Your first appointments is 45 minutes and includes a full assessment & treatment. Follow-up appointments take 45 minutes.
Can your physiotherapist see me straight away?
Yes. We can usually see you within 24 - 48 hours. Occasionally appointments the same day are possible. Durham Physio also operates a treatment cancellation list so you could be contacted sooner if an earlier appointment becomes available.
Will I be given physiotherapy exercises to do?
Most probably. Physiotherapists tend to give exercise as well as advice on the management of your condition. Our physiotherapists will make sure that you are only given appropriate exercises to do in between treatments to optimise the recovery process. Uniquely designed exercise sheets are also created for you to take home.
Can I refer myself to Durham Physio?
Yes, we allow patients to self refer for physiotherapy treatment. You can make an appointment without seeing a GP. However some insurance companies may require this if you have private medical insurance.
I have Bupa, AxaPPP, other private medical insurance - am I covered with your physiotherapists for teatement?
Yes, all our physiotherapists are recognised by the major insurance companies, as we are all Chartered Physiotherapists and members of the HPC. Some companies require a referral from a Doctor before accessing physiotherapy.
What are your payment terms?
Payment is required after each consultation either by cheque or cash or credit cards. Receipts are available for health insurance companies if required. We may invoice some medical insurers after treatment is completed.
Do you know how many treatments I will need?
No, how long is a piece of string? There is no set number of treatments for any condition. At Durham Physio each patient is an individual and we be treated as such.
Will I always see the same Physiotherapist?
If you would prefer to be seen by the same physiotherapist during your series of treatments this can be arranged.
Will I be expected to do anything in between physiotherapy treatments?
Our physiotherapists will make suggestions to you as to what you should be doing at home. They will give you an appropriate exercise plan to follow and any relevant advice.
Can I have a Home Visit?
Yes this can be arranged, the cost of this service is however more expensive due to travel costs.
